Vancouver teen’s death deemed a homicide

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The death of a teenager in Vancouver yesterday is now being investigated as a homicide.

The 15-year-old boy was found by a family member in a home near 24th Avenue and Rupert Street with serious injuries; he was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Constable Brian Montague with the VPD points out they initially considered the death suspicious, “but after preliminary investigation, detectives with our Major Crime Section has determined that death is a homicide.”

Police have not revealed how the boy died, but they do not believe it was a random attack.

“[The boy] was initially reported to be 16 years old. He was born in 1999, but had not reached his 16th birthday yet — he’s a 15-year-old boy named Jason Nguyen,” says Montague.

No arrests have been made and police are still working on determining a motive.

This is Vancouver’s ninth homicide of the year.
