Lions’ offense struggles in loss to the Blue Bombers

WINNIPEG, MB (NEWS 1130) – Travis Lulay tossed a touchdown pass to Courtney Taylor on the Lions’ opening drive of the game, but BC managed just a pair of field goals the rest of the game as it fell 23-13 to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Lulay connected with Taylor for a 17-yard score with 6:20 remaining in the first quarter. Winnipeg tied the game in the second quarter, as Drew Willy hit Justin Veltung for a touchdown. The Lions took the lead back shortly before half-time, as Richie Leone kicked a field goal to make it 10-7.

The Blue Bombers went ahead for good in the opening minute of the second half. Willy tossed a 56-yard touchdown pass to Darvin Adams to make it a 14-10 lead for Winnipeg.

That was the final touchdown of the night for either team, as Lirim Hajrullahu kicked three field goals for the Bombers and Leone added one more field goal for the Lions.

Andrew Harris had a huge game for the Leos despite the result. He had 24 carries for 117 yards on the ground, and added four catches for 50 yards.

The loss was the Lions’ second in a row and drops their record to 2-3. They’ll be back home to host the Edmonton Eskimos next Thursday.
