Wildfire near Harrison Lake growing fast

HARRISON LAKE (NEWS 1130) – The weather is not helping crews fighting the fast-growing wildfire near Harrison Lake.

Wind has fanned the flames from the fire, which has already scorched well over 45 hectares.

“Today, we’ve got about 70 personnel that are going to be working on the fire and about four helicopters,” says Donna Macpherson with the Coastal Fire Centre who adds it is zero per cent contained.

“It’s an area of fairly high fire danger rating and it’s also a highly used recreational area,” she notes.

This fire was caused by people and was completely preventable.

“We know it’s human-caused because it wasn’t lightning. It’s unfortunate that somebody did something that caused this fairly large wildfire in an area that a lot of people enjoy using,” says Macpherson.

The fire isn’t threatening any homes, but Mounties have blocked off the road and asked people to leave nearby campgrounds.
