Lions in tough against red-hot Eskimos

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – This evening’s match is a tale of two teams trending in different directions. The Lions (2-3) have lost two games in a row, while the Edmonton Eskimos (4-1) are first in the CFL after four straight wins. The divisional foes have not met this season. Running Back Andrew Harris says the Leos need to move past the losses and focus on tonight’s game.

“We just have to forget the last two games. There has been some positives, but also a lot of negatives. You have to have a thick skin in this business and just bounce back and what better team to do it against then the hottest team in the league. We are excited to get up against Edmonton. They do a lot of good things on defence and it will be exciting for us.”

Quarterback Travis Lulay threw three interceptions last week against Winnipeg, including two in the red zone. He says he is ready for a bounce back game.

“We have recovered well during this week. I think the confidence is good. We take pride in playing at home. It doesn’t matter who we are playing at home. We want to defend our home turf. We know have a great challenge in Edmonton. This is a football team that obviously they want to beat us and keep our good feelings going.”

Head Coach Jeff Tedford says he still has full faith in Lulay and is confident he will turn it around.

“Travis is our guy. Travis has been very sold. Unfortunately we threw three picks last week and he didn’t play perfect by any stretch. He is the first guy to look in the mirror. That is not a typical Travis outing, no doubt about it, but we a lot of confidence in Travis and the team rallies around him as our leader.”

Even though the Lions have lost two straight, Tedford says there has been positives and he thinks his team is close to turning the corner.

“There has been signs of really good things. They know it is there. It is just a matter of consistency and taking turns really. If we can put it together, and that is the goal, we can be a really good football team.”

Kick off at 7 p.m.
