Rainfall warning in Round 2 of the storm

By

METRO VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The winds may have died down, but the weather systems battering the South Coast are not done with us yet.

A rainfall warning is back in effect for Metro Vancouver.

“I know by summertime standards, it’s quite blustery out there,” says NEWS 1130 Meteorologist Russ Lacate.

“But have a look at some of those numbers from Saturday’s windstorm, which included a southeasterly of 80km/h at the airport. It was 93km/h from the south into Tsawwassen and the maximum gust from the east at Point Atkinson was 102km/h. So it was very windy all around the district on Saturday. So many of the trees — which had root systems already compromised by the drought — came down with those strong winds.”

Russ points out there is no wind warning in effect.

“It’s all about the rain today. We’ve got less gusty conditions and that means more rainfall coming from these moisture-laden clouds. I think it’ll be wet for most of the morning and most of the afternoon. Only on the coastline does it become intermittent or light at times, as the breeze begins to change directions. So, everybody gets wet and the high is around 18.

“We’ll drop the warning by the end of the afternoon because precipitation does taper off tonight. The low is around 12. Then tomorrow, not a bad start to the day: A break or two of sun Tuesday morning, more clouds and more showers tomorrow afternoon, and really quite wet for tomorrow night and Wednesday.”
