The Canucks to face the Ducks in Anaheim

By

CALIFORNIA (NEWS 1130) – The Canucks travel to the Honda Center tonight to battle the Ducks and a few familiar faces. This game is the first time the Canucks and Ducks will meet since the deal that sent popular defenceman Kevin Bieksa to Anaheim. The Ducks, who already boast former Vancouver fan-favourite in Ryan Kesler on their roster from a trade two off-seasons ago, also signed one-time Canuck Mike Santorelli as part of a busy summer.

Bieksa was for a second-round pick at the 2015 NHL Draft last June. He was selected by Vancouver in the fifth round in 2001 and went on to scored 56 goals, adding 185 assists for 241 career points in 597 career games with the Canucks. He wrapped up his time in Vancouver ranked sixth among team defencemen in all-time scoring, assists and appearances, tied for seventh in goals and tied for third in game-winning goals.

The Canucks will be focused on bouncing back from a 3-2 overtime loss in their home opener to the Flames on Saturday by trying to spoil the Ducks’ home opener tonight. Anaheim began its season on a sour note dropping a 2-0 decision on Saturday to the Sharks.

Ryan Miller will start in net for Vancouver. Defenceman Alexander Edler missed the Canucks’ last game because of an illness. He did make the trip to Anaheim and should draw back into the lineup. Rookie Jake Virtanen may get his NHL debut. Coach Willie Desjardins was not available at the morning skate to confirm his roster.

Game time is at 7pm on Sportsnet Vancouver.
