Canucks aim to snap the Canadiens’ nine-game winning streak tonight

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The Canucks and Canadiens will clash this evening at Rogers Arena and it’s a tale of two teams trending in opposite directions.

Vancouver has lost four straight games and remains winless on home ice this season with an 0-2-3 record. At the other end of the spectrum, the Habs have been red hot to start the season, winning their first nine games. Only two other teams in NHL history have started the season with a 10-straight wins. Coach Willie Desjardins knows Vancouver will be in for a challenge.

“You don’t want to be in the record books on the other side. I think there is always motivation to win. We still haven’t won at home so it gives us a chance to turn our season around a little bit as well. Montreal is a very good team so we won’t beat them by getting lucky, we will have to play well.”

Jake Virtanen will be in the Canucks lineup and he is excited to play against the Canadiens for the first time in his career.

“The Habs are a great team. If we come out and play a strong full 60-minutes we can get a win and it can be a turn around for us. Playing Montreal will be exciting and we will come prepared and be ready to go tonight.”

Much of Montreal’s success belongs to Carey Price. The BC native has rocketed out of the gates with seven wins, two shutouts, a spectacular 1.29 GAA and a .961 save percentage. Price says everyone continues to chip in and it’s making his job easier.

“We are scoring goals and putting a lot of pucks in the net. We play a structured, strangling defensive type of game and it makes it really difficult on other teams to beat us.”

Daniel Sedin says it always a fun atmosphere in Rogers Arena when Montreal is in town and he knows the Canucks will have to be on top of their game to beat the Habs.

“They play a good team defence and obviously Price is one of the best goalies in the world. They are very good defensively so it will be a tough match up.”

The puck drops is at 7 p.m. and you can watch the game on Sportsnet Vancouver.
