VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – As the temperature dips below zero, more communities are taking action. Extreme weather alerts have been issued for Burnaby and New Westminster.
That’s prompted BC Housing to open two more homeless shelters in those cities, one on Clarkson in New West and the other on 6th street in Burnaby.
On Thursday, the province and City of Vancouver announced funding of more than $2 million towards building operations for 170 temporary shelter beds. Along with somewhere to sleep, these shelters usually provide three meals a day.
