Henrik Sedin injured in the Canucks’ win over the Islanders

BROOKLYN, NY (NEWS 1130) – Ryan Miller made 47 saves through 65 minutes and then turned aside all three New York shootout attempts as the Vancouver Canucks beat the Islanders 2-1 in their first visit to the Barclays Center. Radim Vrbata tallied the shootout winner.

There were no goals in the opening period, but the Canucks did suffer an important injury. Captain Henrik Sedin was levelled by Mikhail Grabovski, which resulted in a five-minute major penalty for boarding and a 10-minute misconduct for the Islanders forward. Henrik left the game and did not return. After the game, he confirmed that it is a new injury and he will be re-evaluated on Monday before his status is determined.

The Canucks finally opened just scoring just shy of the midway mark in the second period. Daniel Sedin threw the puck in front and Jannik Hansen missed it on his shot attempt, but the puck found its way through the crowd to Ben Hutton, and the rookie defenseman fired home the first goal of his NHL career.

With Miller standing on his head in the third period, the Islanders finally beat him on their 46th shot of the game. With Jaro Halak on the bench for an extra-attacker, New York won a face-off in the Vancouver end and Ryan Strome took a shot through traffic that Miller couldn’t pick up.

The teams traded quality chances in overtime, but no winner was scored so a shootout was required. Miller turned aside Frans Nielsen, Kyle Okposo and John Tavares, while Vrbata scored for Vancouver in the second round.

Vancouver has now won back-to-back games after losing in the first game of its road trip. The Canucks continue the trip on Tuesday against the New York Rangers.
