Senator Patrick Brazeau’s trial may be delayed due to his hospitalization

OTTAWA (NEWS 1130) – The lawyer for Senator Patrick Brazeau is planning to ask for his client’s trial to be postponed after an incident at a Quebec home has left the senator in hospital.

Brazeau was rushed to hospital Monday night and had surgery early Tuesday morning.

At that time, the hospital said Brazeau was in critical but stable condition.

Lawyer Christian Deslauriers tells our Ottawa bureau he hasn’t been able to speak to his client yet due to the senator’s condition, but if a delay is granted the trial could be pushed back to the fall at the earliest.

Brazeau is facing charges of fraud and breach of trust related to his Senate expenses.

He is currently scheduled to begin his trial in March.
