Spring session of BC legislature begins today

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The provincial government should expect to face a lot of questions about real estate and affordable housing as MLAs return to Victoria for the start of the spring session today.

If you follow BC politics, you know Clark’s messaging: It’s all about the economy.

Clark says nothing has changed, despite the new concerns about how some in the real estate industry do things and a move by Royal Dutch Shell last week to hold off on a final decision on a massive LNG project near Kitimat.

“It means sticking to the plan. It means being very careful with how we spend money and making sure we continue to balance our budget… and not taking a whole lot of unnecessary risks.”

NDP Leader John Horgan says Clark is out of touch.

“When [people] turn on the legislative channel and they hear the premier crowing about how great things are, they say, ‘Where does she live? She doesn’t live in my neighbourhood,'” argues Horgan.

The speech from the throne is expected at 2 p.m. today.
