Girl killed in overnight crash in Mission

MISSION (NEWS 1130) – A teenager is dead and three others are injured following a serious crash in Mission overnight. It happened on Burma Road, a curved, twisty, gravel path at around 1 a.m.

RCMP Corporal Patrick Meihan tells NEWS 1130 speed appears to be the cause. “[The driver was travelling] at a high rate of speed, he came to an S curve at the four kilometre mark of Burma Road and couldn’t negotiate the turn. [He] ended up going off road, hit a tree and then rolled on top of his roof.”

“[They were] just having a bonfire is our understanding at this point……they had gone up for a short time, we aren’t sure how long they were up there and then they were returning home,” he explains.

Alcohol and drugs don’t appear to be a factor.

“We haven’t ruled it out 100 per cent but there is no indication of alcohol of drugs, we couldn’t detect any, we didn’t locate any at the scene, no witnesses are saying there was any drinking going on……at this point because of weather conditions, road conditions, the speed led to the accident.”

Police are interviewing nearly a dozen witnesses and are still working to identify the victim.
