BC government facing a lawsuit over cuts to transit passes for the disabled

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A local woman is threatening a class action lawsuit against Christy Clark and the BC Liberal government because of cuts to transit passes for the disabled.

The government has done away with $45 yearly passes and has replaced them with $52 monthly ones.

Delphine Charmley is the mother of two boys with disabilities. “I hate to admit it, but I voted for her. Unfortunately, it’s a vote that is misplaced at this point in time.”

She was mentioned by Christy Clark in 1998 in an argument against the ruling NDP in regards to foster care.

“It’s a slap in the face! She went on to say ‘this woman (Charmley) must be embarrassed by this government’ at that time she was referring to the NDP, unfortunately at this time, I’m referring to her government.”

She says the government campaigned on a strategy to help people, yet have turned into something else.

“It’s disappointing that a government that ran on ‘family first’ has the audacity to do this to those that are the most vulnerable.”

She intends to continue using this year’s passes, because she says the passes indicate they are good through the end of the calendar year.
