Canucks look to avoid a tenth straight loss

SAN JOSE, CA (NEWS 1130) – Setting records can be good thing but not when it’s one for a losing streak. The current Canucks roster is hoping to avoid its share of history.

The franchise record for most consecutive losses is 10 games set back in 1997 and Vancouver comes into this game against the Sharks in San Jose having lost nine in a row.

There is some good news for the team. It will see the return of defenceman Chris Tanev after he missed six games with a lower-body injury. “I feel 100 per cent and I’m ready. We’ve had some good practices and we’re hoping it translates to a good effort for us.”

Fellow blueliner, Nikita Tryamkin will miss a second game in a row as he continues to deal with a foot injury.

Rookie Jake Virtanen will not be in the lineup after he was handed a two game suspension for his hit on San Jose’s Roman Polak last Tuesday. He is eligible to return on Monday when the Canucks host the Kings at Rogers Arena.

Puck drop is at 7:30 p.m. on Sportsnet Pacific.
