Molson Coors brewery site in Vancouver reportedly sold

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – It’s being called a blockbuster sale in Vancouver’s already mind-blowing real estate market.

Concord Pacific has apparently bought the Molson Coors brewery on Burrard for a reported $185 million.

The Globe and Mail is reporting the developer plans to turn the three-hectare industrial property into a “mixed-use residential neighbourhood.”

“That’s a no-go under our current policies,” says Vancouver City Councillor Adriane Carr.

She feels Concord hasn’t thought this through.

“We are committed to — from a regional perspective and a local perspective — to maintain our industrial land. Not sure what they’re thinking, but as far as I’m concerned… we are dedicated to maintaining the industrial land as is.”

“As much as it might look to be a desirable site on False Creek, it’s dedicated industrial land. I can’t see that we can circumvent that,” she adds.

Molson will continue to operate on the site until a new brewery is built elsewhere. In the past, the city of Vancouver has said it had no plans to rezone the property.
