Skier found dead on Whistler Mountain

WHISTLER (NEWS 1130) – The body of a 48-year-old woman has been discovered at the base of a 25 metre cliff in the west ridge area of Whistler Mountain. The Coroner is on scene.

Mounties were called out yesterday afternoon and say another skier found the woman.

“This is an area that is within the ski-area boundaries. There are hazards both inside and outside the ski-area boundaries and most of them, like this cliff, are marked as such,” says Sergeant Rob Knapton.

“There are two parallel investigations that are occurring right now. Just to determine whether or not there was any criminality or any violations that occurred that contributed towards this death. The BC Coroner investigates from their side to determine what the cause of death is, as well as what might have prevented it,” adds Knapton.

Police are not releasing the woman’s name but say she is from Whistler.
