North Shore Rescue reminds hikers to be prepared

NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – With the weather being warm these days, people might be planning a hike this weekend.

Even though the Grouse Grind is clear, there is still snow up on some of the mountains and Mike Danks of North Shore Rescue has some tips for people heading out.

“If you are going up to Seymour there’s still going to be patches of snow, and people need to be aware of that and be prepared for those conditions. So make sure they have proper footwear, things do cool down at night so you’ll need micro spikes and an ice ax depending on the kind of trail you are going to do.”

He says to do the proper research ahead of time and have adequate water and food. It’s also important to bring a charged cell phone and tell people where you are going.

The back country routes in Lynn Headwaters Park are still closed with The Haynes Valley being the big hazard now, with snow.
