Vancouver student wins at Intel International Science and Engineering Fair

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – An 18-year-old student from Vancouver has won $75,000 USD for winning first place at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair.

Austin Wang won the Gordon E. Moore Award for developing microbial fuel cells that more efficiently convert organic waste into electricity.

Wang says his project is useful in that it can be put to use soon.

“My project has a lot of practical applications. And a lot of the technology that I developed can be used and implemented right away. I think that’s also very important, I think the project has value and can make a difference,” shares Wang.

Wang has no plans yet over what he will do with the prize money.
