Board of Trade to discuss importance of hiring people with disabilities

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Members of the Vancouver Board of Trade are set to hear about the importance of hiring people with disabilities.

Rick Hansen with the Man in Motion Foundation says when minor barriers are addressed, people with disabilities can make huge contributions.

“Even though 90 per cent of Canadians believe that accessibility for people with disabilities is a human right, 50 per cent of those people still believe it’s risky to hire people with disabilities,” shares Hansen, citing an Angus Reid Institute poll.

The former Vice-President of Walgreens is speaking to the Board of Trade this afternoon.

While with the company, he brought in a hiring model that saw ten percent of staff made up by people with disabilities.
