Missing BC plane found, passengers safe

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Everyone on board a single-engine aircraft that went missing Sunday are okay after being rescued from an ice-field.

The Beechcraft Musketeer plane took off from Pitt Meadows airport, east of Vancouver, just before 8:30 a.m. Sunday.

The three people on board planned to land in Pemberton before returning.

The trio was reported overdue Sunday afternoon.

Rescuers focused their search on a 100 kilometre section of a rugged and remote valley between the northern end of Indian Arm and Pemberton.

Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre captain Gregory Clarke says a snowmobiler spotted the single-engine aircraft in the Pemberton icefield and snapped a few pictures from a ridge in the distance.

“Late this afternoon that information was given to us about 5:20 p.m., and shortly thereafter, crews who were already searching in the area were vectored over there by a private plane, which was very helpful, and we were able to get our crews right on site.”

Members of the Canadian Air Search and Rescue Association, who are civilian aviators trained to assist in aerial searches, were also called in to help.
