VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – It looks like the Vancouver School Board’s battle with the provincial government over submitting a balanced budget has taken an unexpected turn.
Chair Mike Lombardi says trustees have some new numbers to look at.
“We do have a proposal from the minister. However, we have not had a chance to discuss it with our board. Our staff is preparing advice that we’ll be discussing tonight at our board meeting.”
Lombardi won’t get into any details.
“When we look at the proposal, then we’ll have an opportunity to deal with it. So, it’s up to individual trustees… we’ll wait for the conversation.”
The deadline to submit a balanced budget is tomorrow. The trustees could be fired if they choose not to comply.
Back in April, the board voted against a budget that included more than $20-million worth of cuts.
