VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Summertime has arrived in Vancouver and if you drive a noisy car or motorcycle you might want to take notice of just how loud it is.

Noisy car engines, tires, breaks and exhaust systems are all being targeted by officers – some equipped with decibel meters.

VPD Constable Brian Montague says if you get busted, the penalty is a $109 ticket and 3 points.

“The noisy vehicles on our roadways especially in the summertime when people have their windows open, especially residents of the downtown core. We get an increased number of complaints, we get an increased number of concerns and it can be debilitating,” he explains.

“The noise levels that we hear from some motorcycles and cars reach upwards of… 115 decibels. The legal requirement is 91 decibels.”

He adds this doesn’t apply to people who like to blast the music when they drive.

The summer campaign starts today.
