Langley man’s body found near Chilliwack

CHILLIWACK (NEWS 1130) – The body of a 21-year-old man from Langley has been recovered from a canyon near Chehalis Lake near Chilliwack.

Neil Brewer with the Kent Harrison Search and Rescue Team says the camper went missing Friday night after being separated from friends.

“We believe this individual tried to take a shortcut and ended up in an extremely dangerous swift-water river,” says Brewer. “If he’d simply stayed on the logging road and walked back to the campsite, everything would have been fine”

Mounties in the area are reminding you to prepare and act appropriately whenever you’re in the bush.

“The RCMP reminds visitors to our area to be aware of their limitations and the environment while enjoying activities in our region,” says Corporal Mike Rail with the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment.

Two other campers who went looking for their friend also had to be rescued.

The Coroners Service is now in charge of the investigation.
