When will the summer weather really get going in Metro Vancouver?

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – It’s been nearly a month since the official start of summer. But some are wondering where it is!

Daily highs have been close to normal of 22 degrees and we’re not breaking the top 10 wettest Julys ever, but the number of gloomy, rainy days is 2.5 times what we’d normally see.

People may be feeling ripped-off after such hot and sunny summer last year. But NEWS 1130 Meteorologist Russ Lacate says in terms of hours of sunshine and heat, this year isn’t that far from normal.

“I think it’s mainly that the showers have been more frequent. So, with the extra days’ worth of rain, it’s appeared especially gloomy so far this summer.”

Russ doesn’t see any sustained string of hot and dusty days in the forecast.

“For what it’s worth, the longer-range charts — which were completely incorrect about what was going to happen in the first half of this summer — are advertising again slightly wetter than normal conditions for the next two to three weeks. Beyond that, we’re getting back to average weather.”

He adds we can hold out hope that summer could still make a comeback for the second half of August and into September.
