Burnaby shooting sends one man to hospital

BURNABY (NEWS 1130) – Police tape surrounded the intersection of Canada Way and 12th Avenue in Burnaby Monday evening after a shooting sent one person to the hospital.

Burnaby RCMP Staff Sgt. Jeff Ausmus told NEWS 1130 the investigation is still in the early stages but did say that it “was not believed to be a random shooting.”

RCMP are asking anyone with more information to contact them, or Crime Stoppers.

Meanwhile, witnesses say they heard gunshots around 8 p.m, saw a man on the ground in the alley and saw another man get into a waiting car and take off.

Neighbour Dana was at home when she heard the commotion. “All of a sudden we heard two shots and then seven or eight after that. Sounded like firecrackers but then we realized it wasn’t,” she says, adding they then went outside. “There was neighbours in the street and they were phoning 911. We were looking around for shell casings and then we finally saw them on the driveway [of the house on the corner].”

A witness who did not wish to give his name says he also heard the shots and saw a man laying in the alley next to a townhouse complex.

Another says he saw a man with a gun shooting repeatedly and then get into a car. “A lady came ten minutes after crying help, help me. Then after one-minute police came,” adding an ambulance took someone away.

No arrests have been made.
