Victoria sex offender could have victims in Metro Vancouver

VICTORIA (NEWS 1130) – There’s a strong possibility a man charged with sexually assaulting children in Victoria decades ago has other victims living in the Metro Vancouver area.

A man has come forward to accuse a former youth worker and there’s evidence he isn’t the only person affected.

Harry Charles Sadd worked with kids throughout the 70s, 80s and 90s. Part of that time was spent as a badminton coach. The now 70-year-old had previously been convicted of sex crimes involving children in 1991.

The latest charges include three counts of Indecent Assault By a Male on a Male Person and one count of Sexual Assault. The first charge may sound strange, but that’s what it was called at the time of the alleged offence.

Victoria Police Sergeant Kristi Ross says the victim did talk to the police years ago, but they’ve now moved the file forward with the victim’s cooperation.

“He’s tried to deal with it himself and needs this to move on. We need to know to identify other victims and get those people support as well.”

She is fairly certain other boys were affected.

“There’s going to be some people in the Greater Vancouver area that I’m going to want to speak to. Their names have come up through the investigation and they will be getting contacted by myself or another detective directly, but I also encourage them to contact us… I do know that other people have moved on. They could just be witnesses. Some of them are victims. We’re still working through that.”

Ross wants to make sure other victims are put in touch with psychological help if they want it. She adds no one should have to live with a secret like this alone.

Here’s a photo of what Sadd looked like in 1992.
