Police arrest SkyTrain assault suspect

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Police have arrested a man they believe to be involved in the assault of two people at the Broadway-City Hall SkyTrain station a few days ago.

It started after a woman claimed a man tripped her after she accidentally bumped into him while getting off the bus. She says he made racist comments towards her prompting her 23-year-old son, who was with her, and a passerby to speak up.

They say he challenged them both to a fight, at which point the passerby recorded a video of the incident on his cell phone. The video shows the accused charging the passerby, grabbing him and pushing him against a glass wall before leaving. The passerby suffered a bleeding scrape to his wrist and bruising.

Peter Anthony Lee Gagen, 50, faces charges of assault and uttering threats. He has no fixed address and is known to police. After spending the night behind bars, he was released from police custody on the condition he have no contact with the victims. He must also stay away from the Broadway-City Hall SkyTrain Station.

Transit Police are working with the BC Hate Crimes Team as their investigation continues.
