New SkyTrain car breaking down cause for concern for TransLink Critic

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – One of the brand new Mark III SkyTrain cars broke down this morning resulting in delays on Expo and Millennium Lines.

The news is concerning to the NDP critic.

David Eby says these new trains cost TransLink tens of millions of dollars and people will want answers.

“There will be a lot of eyes in Translink to see how they deal with this. TransLink is dealing with a public credibility problem to start with, and this is not going to help. It’s going to be a test of the new CEO there to make sure the respond quickly and appropriately,” says Eby.

“I certainly have a question about why these trains are breaking down given how much money we spent on them and what steps the provincial government took to ensure we were getting high-quality products for British Columbians for the amount we paid for it.”

Eby says he’ll be interested to see why this happened and the BC Government needs to be watching too.

TransLink says there is an investigation into what happened with this train, but it is back up and running.
