‘Serious assault’ reported on UBC campus, man arrested

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Mounties say a man has been arrested after what appears to be a serious assault on UBC’s main Vancouver campus. Officers were called to a student residence in West Mall at 11:30 p.m. where a man was holding down another man while waiting for police to arrive.

While the investigation is still in the early stages, Sergeant Annie Linteau says it looks like the suspect was chased down following a woman’s assault. The victim “has since been transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries,” Linteau adds.

Police say the public is currently not at risk.

No charges have been announced.
