Aldergrove border jumper arrested

LANGLEY (NEWS1130) – Mounties have arrested a man who supposedly jumped the border on a motorcycle near Aldergrove Crossing this afternoon.

The 49-year-old man from Langley is known to police, but they have yet to release his name pending charges.

The board jumping incident into Canada happened just after another man tried to cross into the United States.

Langley RCMP Corporal Holly Largy says Abbotsford Police contacted US Border Patrol and said they were watching a motorcycle that wasn’t stopping and headed south to the US. The rider tried to jumper the border but was arrested by US Border Patrol.

Then 45 minutes later, US Border Patrol called RCMP about a motorcycle heading into Canada.

“All the entrances to Willowbrook Mall, facing the west side are completely closed, blocked off by RCMP. Several marked and unmarked cars have come in, in the last ten minutes or so. Up above is an RCMP helicopter making circles and trying to look for what appears to be a suspect at this point. There isn’t a lot of concern coming from people walking around the mall at this point,” says NEWS1130’s Bruce Claggett.

The mall stayed open but police were making sure to check everyone who came and went.

Police were focused on the area around the Toys R Us store.
