Sleep Out Vancouver hopes to raise money for Covenant House

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A select group of people are learning and experiencing what it’s like to sleep on the streets.

It’s a life changing experience, sleeping on a piece of cardboard, in the cold, something way too many youth in our community have to deal with nightly.

Michelle Clausius with Covenant House says the event is a way to give an experience most would never hope to face, even as an adult.

“They go away with having just a glimpse of what it must be like for a young person who is sleeping on the streets in Vancouver and as they try to sleep and they listen to all the sounds in the city and they experience that sense of vulnerability of what it’s like sleeping outside.”

The services they offer are open to any youth who comes through their doors and they are never turned away says Clausius.

Some celebrities taking part include chef Vikram Vij and our very own Riaz Meghji from Breakfast Television.

Business leaders are also being encouraged to bring their experiences back to the people they influence.

The goal of the experience is to raise $750,000 for programs and services.
