Surprise! More snow for Metro Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Just when many people thought the recent snowfall was behind them, flurries started flying in Metro Vancouver Sunday night.

Shortly after 11 p.m., Environment Canada issued a snowfall warning for the potential of 5 to 10 cm by early Monday morning.

Eastern areas are expected to see flurries, while other areas may see more of a mix of rain and snow.

Environment Canada says visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.

An earlier update from the weather service had predicted a possible 2 to 4 cm for Metro Vancouver.

The moisture comes from a low-pressure system just west of Vancouver Island.

Environment Canada’s Snowfall warning:

“Snowfall, with total amounts of 5 to 10 cm is expected.

A low-pressure system just west of Vancouver Island will continue to spread plenty of moisture over Metro Vancouver tonight. Snow has been reported over eastern sections of Metro Vancouver and will likely continue throughout tonight. Local snow accumulation of 5 to 10 cm is expected before the snow ends early Monday morning. Elsewhere, precipitation will fall as rain or become mixed with wet snow during heavy showers.

Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ec.tempetepacifique-pacificstorm.ec@canada.ca or tweet reports to #BCStorm.”
