Canucks dominated in 4-1 loss to Flames

CALGARY (NEWS 1130) – Before the game, the Canucks talked about how big it was to get two points against their division rivals going into the Christmas break. Instead, Vancouver was flat and thoroughly outplayed in a 4-1 loss to the Flames.

The Canucks started off well. Defenceman Nikita Tryamkin opened the scoring with his second career goal when his wrist shot from the point deflected up into the air and fooled Brian Elliot.

It was 1-0 after the first period, but, it was all Calgary from there.

Mark Giodarno tied it up early in the second on a power play, he then added another one midway through the period shorthanded when he jammed in a rebound of Michael Frolik’s shot past Jacob Markstrom.

Mikael Backlund added the insurance marker with less than two minutes to go in the second while Matthew Tkachuck scored on an empty net late in the third.

Vancouver was dominated from the opening face off with the Flames carrying the play and out-shooting the Canucks 36-15

Markstrom did his best to keep Vancouver in it making 33 saves.

The Canucks go into the break with a record of 14-18-3 and are off until they host the LA Kings Wednesday night.
