Ontario company testing drone delivery service

TORONTO (NEWS 1130) – You could be just a few years away from getting your deliveries by air.

The Ontario-based Drone Delivery Canada is about to start testing its fleet in small town Alberta.

CEO Tony di Benedetto says the town of Foremost gives pilots a wide open space to try its commercial system.

“It allows us to test beyond visual… So actually flying the drone beyond out ground station operator’s visibility of the drone, which we’re not capable of doing in Southern Ontario,” says di Benedetto.

“Eventually as the technology further develops, and we move it closer to more of an urbanized area, then potentially you could see drones delivering to your doorstep. It’s not that far-fetched. It’s happening around the world.

The company has been delivering up to 10-pound packages for as long as an hour and hopes to start commercial deliveries next year.
