UBC previews new pool to open this month

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The University of British Columbia is preparing to debut its brand new swimming facility.

Construction of the $39-million facility began in August, 2014. The building is about 80,000 square-feet and will open to the public on January 23rd.

There’s 50-metre, 25-metre, and leisure pools, as well as a hot tub, a diving tank, and a lazy river. There’s even a rope swing at the 25-metre pool.

An underground holding tank will harvest rainwater from the roof to replenish evaporated pool water. It’s expected the pool will use 2.7-million litres of rainwater each year.
