Air India bomber released from halfway house

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The only man ever to be convicted in the Air India bombing can go home according to a new ruling from the Parole Board of Canada.

Inderjit Singh Reyat no longer has to live at a halfway house, since being released from prison a year ago.

Vancouver Sun Reporter Kim Bolan has covered this story extensively. She’s talked to some of the family members of the victims — and they’re not happy.

“They are of course disappointed, especially the ones who are outside of Canada. They see this as a real kick in the teeth that this fellow is going to his family when of course they’ve lost their loved one and will never see them again.”

Reyat left prison last year after finishing two-thirds of his perjury sentence for lying at the trial of his co-accused who were later acquitted.

Before his perjury conviction, Reyat pleaded guilty to manslaughter for his role in the 1985 bombing which killed all 329 people aboard.
