Fire destroys North Vancouver home

NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – North Van fire crews are watching an area near Grouse Mountain after an overnight fire.

Crews were called to Skyline Drive after there were reports an isolated house was up in smoke.

The house was destroyed, but Assistant Chief Jim Bonneville says luckily there was no one home.

“It’s kind of tucked away right at the end of the road here way up the mountain on the side of the hill. People are out of country from what we’ve been told, so the crews fought it the best they could,” says Bonneville, who adds it was a challenge.

“It’s not like there’s neighbours anywhere by here so the fire must’ve been going for a while before it was noticed by anybody and called in.”

The steep hillside made it tricky for crews, along with nearby trees igniting.

“To complicate things even more, they had a power line go down right in front of the house,” explains Bonneville.
