What to expect at Tuesday’s grand opening of Trump Tower

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Police officers in Vancouver are preparing for a protest at the opening of the Trump Tower on Tuesday.

So, what can you expect as Donald Trump’s sons make a visit to the city?

Thousands of people could be attending the rally at Jack Poole Plaza at 4 p.m. before it moves to the tower.

Vancouver Police say they are aware of the plans for the protest and, of course, will be watching the situation.

Here’s the statement NEWS 1130 received from the VPD.

“The VPD facilitates dozens of demonstrations in the city of Vancouver throughout the year, balancing the rights of an individual to have their voice heard, and working to ensure those rights do not negatively impact others. Public safety will always remain our top priority.
Unfortunately, it would be counterproductive for us to share our plans in advance of one of those demonstrations, as it would reduce the effectiveness of our police response.”

Nora Fadel organized the anti-Trump rally that will coincide with the tower’s opening.

“Vancouver is one of the cities that is so diverse, so open and most of the people here are very open and very cultural. To have such an aggressive name on a building in Vancouver, with that much hate, all of that is pretty upsetting,” says Fadel.

She’s not sure exactly how big the turnout will be but predicts it won’t be insignificant.

“Right now on their web page it says around 2.4 thousand interested, I’m assuming we have about 600 now. But it all depends, sometimes there can be more, sometimes there could be less.”
