Canadian Muslims dealing with repercussions following attack: Imam

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A Canadian Imam says Muslims in this country are once again going to face a backlash for terrorist events around the world.

While he is condemning the attacks in London this week, he believes he shouldn’t have to.

Canadian Muslims are once again forced to apologize for something they had nothing to do with, that according to one imam who says other faith groups aren’t held to the same standards.

When a Christian commits one of these heinous acts, the entire community isn’t held responsible for it according to Syed Sohawardy with Muslims Against terrorism.

He doesn’t want what he calls special treatment, just to be treated fairly.

“If a Muslim commits a crime then it should be that person’s individual actions (that are judged) or that organization’s actions. Muslims around the world have declared that ISIS is not a Muslim organization.”

He wants muslims to be treated like everyone else.

“Just like any other faith community. If in the Christian community, somebody commits a crime, the Christianity does not get blamed. All Christians are not responsible for the crimes of that person who has a christian faith.”

He says the attacks in London, just like many of the other terrorist acts only further the stereotypes leading to real problems for Muslims around the world, including in Canada.

He says all you have to do look through social media to see the proof.
