Quick, Iginla lead Kings to shutout win over Canucks

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – With the playoffs out of sight, Coach Willie Dejardins said he wanted his team to play hard down the stretch. The effort was there, but the execution wasn’t in a 2-0 loss to the L.A. Kings.

Jarome Iginla and Tyler Toffoli scored four minutes apart in the second giving the Kings all the offence they needed as Jonathan Quick made 35 saves for the shutout.

Daniel Sedin thought his team had enough opportunities to convert “He was good. We had our chances and couldn’t beat him. We cut down our mistakes, but still made too many tonight.”

Vancouver came out strong to start the game. The Canucks had the games first power play, but couldn’t capitalize and were out-shooting L.A. 6-2 early.

The Kings started to get some pressure on Vancouver, but Ryan Miller made some key saves keeping the game scoreless through 20 minutes.

It stayed tied until the 12:48 mark of the second. L.A. was on the man advantage when Iginla tipped a point shot by Alec Martinez past Miller giving the veteran his third goal in three games.

Tyler Toffoli doubled the lead when he kept the puck on a three-on-two rush and ripped a wrist shot top shelf making it 2-0.

Vancouver failed to test Quick often in the third. Daniel had the best chance midway through the third, but he was stopped from in-close by the Kings netminder.
