Building partially collapses in Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A part of a building under construction in Chinatown has collapsed.

A wall from a condo development on Pender and Gore ended up damaging the adjacent heritage building, and spilling onto the roof and steps of a home on Pender.

“The wall of the new building blew off and entered our house. It doesn’t look like there’s any reinforcement bars going through the concrete wall, so our whole house is littered with concrete from that building,” says Neil Birtch who lives in the house.

Alan Tang was in the houe at the time. “I went up to check my room. I live on the second floor. The ceiling is collapsed in my room. Then I went outside, I found concrete at the front door.”

No word if the high winds played a role in the collapse.
