Clark confident, but election race far from over

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – BC Liberal Leader Christy Clark says she’s feeling optimistic as the provincial election campaign approaches the halfway point, but she acknowledges the race is far from over.

Clark joined tens of thousands of people taking part in today’s Vancouver Sun Run. While she didn’t run the full race, Christy Clark says events such as the Sun Run are a good way to build community.

Joined by fellow Liberal candidates, she is nothing but confident when asked how her campaign is going so far.

“I’ve been feeling really good about it, I mean I’m always an optimist. And my job is just to make sure people know what we stand for, what I want to do if I get a second term as Premier and I feel like we’re working hard to get that message out.”

Clark says she is addressing the opioid crisis facing BC. She adds the province has already spent $100 million dollars, and is promising the federal government’s contribution will be properly allocated.

“We have set up a panel of experts- half law enforcement, half health- who are giving us the best advice about how we spend money and they are going to tell us how to deploy that $10 million.”

One man standing at the race’s starting line heckled Clark as she readied to run, calling on her to go back to the corporate boardroom before Liberal staff stepped in and he stopped.

NDP Leader John Horgan will be holding a rally at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver this afternoon.

Meanwhile, the BC Greens are taking part in an annual beach clean up at Heriot Bay, near Campbell River.
