Four Mission Mounties hurt when stolen SUV rams blockade

MISSION (NEWS 1130) – Four RCMP officers are recovering after the driver in a stolen SUV rammed into a police blockade on Lougheed Highway west of Mission Tuesday evening.

RCMP received a call about an erratic driver who was talking on his cell phone heading from Maple Ridge towards Mission around 5 p.m. and found out the vehicle was reported stolen.

The driver avoided an initial traffic stop in the Silverdale area, and a second blockade was set up on Lougheed Highway between Chester Street and Nelson Street.

“The suspect vehicle, collided with two police vehicles, continued to flee, driving into the ditch,” Mission RCMP Cst. James Mason says. “The suspect ended up fleeing the vehicle on foot into a nearby wooded area. We utilized the police dog services and the suspect male was eventually arrested without further incident.”

A third police vehicle was damaged but Mason is with Mission RCMP would not confirm how.

Mason says the suspect is known to police and remains in custody as the investigation continues.

The four officers were taken to the hospital with minor injuries and have since been released.
