Charges after man steals ambulance from VGH

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Police say a man is facing charges for theft over $5,000, hit and run, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and resisting arrest after investigators say he stole an ambulance from Vancouver General Hospital on Thursday evening.

Officers quickly boxed the driver in around Oak Street and West 10th Avenue. They also used a beanbag round to help subdue the 59-year-old Vancouver man who wouldn’t get out of the ambulance. He was treated for some minor injuries and taken into custody.

Investigators are now trying to figure out the man’s motive.

The Independent Investigations Office, a provincial body that oversees and investigates police actions, has not been notified because the man’s injuries were not serious.
