UBC football star off to New York Giants mini camp this week

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Alex Morrison is an Ontario kid – Sault Ste Marie to be exact – but he has endeared himself to University football fans on the west coast over the last four years.

Now he’ll have a chance to endear himself to a National Football League Franchise.

Morrison will head down south to compete at the New York Giants rookie mini camp this week, beginning Thursday. ‘Compete’ is the key word for Morrison, who is not afraid of the stage.

“I’m obviously very, very excited. I’ve been looking forward to it once I heard the news. I’m super pumped, looking forward to competing, and I can’t wait to be there.”

He has a Vanier Cup championship to his name, playing a role in UBC’s title win in 2015, but injuries cut short his campaign in 2016. A strong showing at the CFL combine secured his invite from the Giants.

“It was devastating to have a season cut short, especially after a National Championship, and not being able to be there for my teammates (this year) to help us win, but I put in a lot of work in rehab to give myself the best opportunity to get back.”

“I’m so thankful, and looking forward (to camp)” Morrison said.

He joins a list of other UBC players to receive invites to Giants mini camp, as kicker Quinn Van Gylswyck, defensive back Taylor Loffler, linebacker Terrell Davis have attended in the past.
