You’ll have a say to change the City of Vancouver’s logo

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Following a public outcry and a lot of criticism, Vancouver City Hall is going to once again try its hand at creating a new logo for the city, but this time you’ll have a say.

Earlier this year local graphic designers slammed the $8,000 effort and Mayor Gregor Robertson promised to try again. He put forward a motion to be considered during the May 2nd council meeting that would stop the roll-out of the previous redesign and to work with the local chapter of Graphic Designers of Canada on new ideas.

The organization will be in charge of reviewing submissions and then it will select three final design ideas. The public will then be able to vote on it.

An online survey is open until next week and it’s only open to people who live in Vancouver.

The work would be done within existing civic budgets, according to the initial motion. The city had put out a new logo because staff said the current one had not been updated in more than a decade and it needed to be upgraded.
