Fisherman okay after dramatic rescue on Capilano River

NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) District of North Vancouver Fire and Rescue crews have been doing a lot of practicing recently when it comes to high-angle and rope rescues.

Their Twitter feed shows practices on a crane, on the water and the Lion’s Gate Bridge.

Well on Thursday night, all that practice paid off.

A fisherman became stuck when the water rose in the fast-moving Capilano River.

Residents could hear him screaming for help.

Crews lowered a firefighter by rope down from the Highway One overpass, he attached himself to the fisherman, and the pair was successfully lifted to safety.

The fisherman was said to be cold but in good condition as he was taken to hospital.
