Ready for summer? What about your car?

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – It’s the first weekend of summer and that has many of us plotting our next out-of-town escape. But is your car roadworthy?

Brett Delaney with Delaney’s OK Tire in Langley has some timely reminders if you plan to hit the highway.

He says you should make sure your tires are up to the task, and that goes for your spare as well.

“Even if you’re not using your spare and your spare is in the back of your trunk, it will still lose air and there’s nothing worse than, you know, you get a flat tire on the freeway, you pull over, you go to use your spare and then you find out your spare is either in bad condition or flat as well, and then you’re really stranded.”

Delaney says it’s always best to check the pressure on all four driving wheels as well, and to make sure your brakes are in good working order too. He says brakes are too often neglected by most drivers.

“Because they haven’t had them checked in a while, because even if a vehicle has a low pad on it it will still stop, so people might think, you know, ‘I’m not hearing noise, I’m not feeling anything and my vehicle is still stopping. My brakes might still be in good shape.'”
