Thousands expected to turn out for Khatsahlano Street Party

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – More than 150,000 people are expected to attend today’s Khatsahlano Street Party in Kitsilano.

The event is taking over West 4th Avenue, featuring live music and performances.

Organizer Jane McFadden says the event is in its sixth year and it’s doing well.

“(It’s a) $380,000 event so the budget is very tight, but we did more than break even last year and we expect to this year. We have so much participation, and outside vendors coming in and we have some amazing sponsorships on board as well,” she says.

McFadden says with more than 50 bands performing across eight stages, the event may bring back memories for some people.

“There’s an older demographic that potentially came here back in the day, on West 4th, and listened to music. In the 60s and 70s it was quite the hub for music listening.”

The party is on West 4th between Burrard and MacDonald.
