New theatre company tackles issues in the lives of millennial youth

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A new non-profit theatre company aims to promote works that are written by millennials, for millennial.
“Works that aren’t necessarily kind of fitting in any other theatre scene before, they’re very nuanced and complex,” says Beau Han Bridge, the actor, filmmaker and director behind the Midtwenties Theatre Society.
“Very, very relevant to now-a-days too, with regards to our political situation and especially these kids.”
The society’s upcoming production, “This is Our Youth“, is an adaptation of a play written by Kenneth Lonergan in the late 90’s, according to Bridge, that tells the tale of three kids.
“Three kids that are very unhappy with the world around them, and they don’t necessarily know exactly how they came here, but rather they just found themselves here and they’re forced to deal with what they have.”
Though the name of his non-profit society as well as the play’s title may point to a specific demographic, Bridge says people outside the 18-30 age range can expect to walk away having learned something valuable.
“There’s all these scenes of like the inevitability of death, philosophy, politics, art, personality that just range like beyond any age range.”
As per the group’s Facebook page, “This is Our Youth” does contain strong language, drug use, non-toxic smoke effects, and sexual and racial references that may be unsuitable for children.
The production kicks off at the Red Gate Revue Stage on Granville Island this Friday, and runs until July 23rd.
